Acclaim for the British Zoo Book

An essential purchase - The Bartlett Society Newsletter

Immediately after the arrival of the Zoos of Britain and Ireland book, I spent two hours going through it, smiling and tingling all the time... 🙂 Must admire its content and design, with many interesting photos, statistics, maps and special chapters - but the most fantastic thing about it is probably the reviewing text style, giving almost a possibility to make a trip to British zoos sitting in a living room... Many thanks! - Radim, Czech Republic

One of the best and most anticipated zoo volumes ever published arrived today. First impression is splendid. My signed copy will take a special place on my natural history shelf. Instant classic - Konstantin, Norway

It is just the BEST BOOK EVER!!!  I dared to open it, telling myself I would just take a quick look at one zoo to get an idea of the layout, style and so on.  Ha.  That was a silly notion on my part.  Half-an-hour later and I was still saying.......'just one more zoo'.  I love it all.  The stats, the tables, the photographs, the layout, the information.  It is a book made in Heaven.  Thank you so very much - Nigel H, England

What was inside exceeded all expectations! A beautifully designed book (hats off to Alan), which may not be missing in any bookcase of a zoo lover. I know what to read in the near future.... And hopefully I will learn a lot from it. Just browsing through it briefly makes me want to pack my bags and plan a trip to England. And who wouldn't love a book with an Okapi on the back cover? - Els, Belgium

Book looks amazing, great pics and a whole lot of words. My bedtime reading for the next few weeks. Excellent work. So glad that I have a copy - Alan, England

Great book, not only to plan a trip but also for collectors (lots of photos on old guidebooks), historians, fans of rare species.. Every region has to have a book like this! - Erik, Belgium

My copy of the book arrived today. It's a lovely thing, huge congratulations from me on the whole project. I've dipped in to some random pages, as I'm supposed to be working (!), the first of which was Howletts and Aspinall. What a great piece of writing it is. I'm very much looking forward to reading the book in full. I'm a book enthusiast, but it's rare to find zoo books that aren't just a bit dry. By contrast, it looks as though you're going to entertain me greatly here. After all, zoos are anything but dry - Nige, England

I have recently received my copy of this beautifully designed and very informative book. After skipping through this hard back edition to find some of my favourite visited zoological gardens to compare notes and learn more, I now find I have trouble putting this book down as it is packed full of interest and has drawn me back to the beginning, reading every page. The style of writing allows the reader to not only learn about the establishment but along with the photographs, really get a feel for the place, absolutely essential if you have not visited before - Kevin, England

Both the historical and the observational descriptions are simply marvellous, and the balance between the two excellent. Even in 20 years, when the ‚Overviews‘ will be deemed out of date, the historical introductions will remain the standard. The book is as perfect as anyone could reasonably expect - Herman, Germany

I cannot recommend this book highly enough - Keeper Contact magazine
